In response to growing concerns raised during the 53rd Session of the Codex Committee on Food Hygiene (CCFH), the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Meeting on Microbiological Risk Assessment (JEMRA) convened a critical meeting. Their mission? To scrutinize recent scientific advancements, data, and evidence related to foodborne viruses, with a sharp focus on prevention, intervention measures, and the real-world effectiveness of these interventions across the entire food systems continuum.
Since the initial expert meeting report in 2008, the public health significance of specific foodborne virus-commodity combinations has gained substantial traction. This heightened awareness has spurred updates to food supply chain management strategies and sparked new research initiatives.
