Unveiling the Responsible Nations Index: India's Global Standing
New Delhi, India: In a groundbreaking development, former President Ram Nath Kovind unveiled the Responsible Nations Index (RNI) at the prestigious Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC) in Delhi on Monday. This index is a revolutionary tool that ranks 154 countries based on their commitment to responsibility, a concept that goes beyond traditional power and economic metrics.
The RNI evaluates nations on four key dimensions: internal responsibility, global community engagement (external responsibility), environmental stewardship (environmental responsibility), and citizen well-being. It's a comprehensive assessment that challenges the conventional focus on power and economic might.
Here's a glimpse of the rankings:
- Top Performers: Singapore takes the lead, showcasing exceptional internal governance and global responsibility. Switzerland, Denmark, and Cyprus follow closely, setting high standards for responsible nation-building.
- India's Position: India ranks 16th, a testament to its progress in various sectors. It surpasses France, indicating a positive shift in its approach to governance and global citizenship.
- Powerful Nations: Interestingly, powerful countries like the United States (66th) and Japan (38th) don't dominate the top spots, suggesting that responsibility is a multifaceted concept that goes beyond economic and military strength.
- South Asian Context: Pakistan ranks 90th, while Afghanistan lags at 145th, highlighting the challenges and opportunities within the region.
The RNI is a collaborative effort between the World Intellectual Foundation, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai, and Jawaharlal Nehru University. It draws on data from international institutions like the World Bank, United Nations, IMF, WHO, and FAO, ensuring a comprehensive and reliable assessment.
"The RNI redefines what it means to be a responsible nation," said President Kovind. "It's not just about economic and military prowess; it's about how a country treats its citizens and the world around it. Internal responsibility, environmental accountability, and global citizenship are the pillars of this index."
