In a dazzling display of culture, talent, and ambition, one young woman has risen above the rest to claim the coveted title of Miss Bird of Paradise PNG: Miss Western Highlands Province, Yampela Popena! But this is more than just a beauty pageant; it's a celebration of Papua New Guinean identity and the power of women.
The grand finale saw Popena not only crowned the winner but also showered with prizes befitting her achievement. These included a significant K20,000 cash prize, an unforgettable return trip to Israel, a beautiful gold necklace and pendant, a stunning bouquet of flowers, and perhaps most significantly, automatic entry into the prestigious Miss Pacific Islands Pageant and other international competitions. This win positions her as a true ambassador for her province and her country. Furthermore, she will embark on a series of cultural engagements and promotional visits throughout PNG, showcasing the richness and diversity of her heritage.
The competition was fierce, with Miss Enga Province securing the First Runner-Up position, earning K15,000 and a lovely silver jewelry set. Miss East Sepik Province followed closely behind, claiming the Second Runner-Up spot with K10,000. Miss Gulf Province rounded out the top contenders, placing third and receiving K7,000. Even those who didn't reach the top spots were recognized for their participation, with all other contestants receiving K1,000 and silver pendants as a token of appreciation. The Minor Awards were shared amongst contestants from Enga, Morobe, and Western Province, each receiving K2,000 for their achievements. In the Special Awards, Miss Gulf and Miss Sandaun shared the Entrepreneurship Award, demonstrating their business acumen and innovative ideas. Adding to her already impressive haul, Miss Western Highlands also secured the Best Float award, along with an additional K5,000.
