Red Sox Fans Won’t Love Latest Bo Bichette Update (2026)

For many Boston Red Sox supporters, the recent news surrounding Bo Bichette might not be music to their ears. After the team’s loss of Alex Bregman to free agency, fans are fervently hoping that the organization will pursue Bichette as a potential replacement.

However, it’s important to note that Bichette is attracting interest from several teams, with the Philadelphia Phillies appearing to be a strong contender. The Phillies have recently brought on board former Blue Jays bench coach Don Mattingly, who has established a solid rapport with Bichette during their time together in Toronto.

Mattingly reportedly worked closely with Bichette on a daily basis, as noted by MLB Network analyst Harold Reynolds, suggesting that this connection gives the Phillies an edge in the race for Bichette.

Adding to the intrigue, Jon Heyman of the New York Post offered fresh updates regarding Bichette’s status, mentioning that the Phillies, along with the Red Sox, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and his current team, the Blue Jays, are still in contention for his services. Notably, Heyman reported that Bichette’s recent meeting with the Phillies went exceptionally well.

In 2025, Bichette made a remarkable comeback with the Toronto Blue Jays, bouncing back from a challenging previous season. Over the course of 139 games, he posted a batting average of .311 and an impressive OPS of .840, accumulating 181 hits, hitting 18 home runs, and driving in 94 runs. His consistent hitting and power were instrumental in helping the Blue Jays reach the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Unfortunately, Bichette faced a setback when he sustained a left knee injury (a posterior cruciate ligament sprain) on September 6, which forced him to miss the remainder of the regular season and the early rounds of the playoffs. Nevertheless, he made a triumphant return for the World Series, transitioning to second base for his first appearances at that position in the major leagues. In a thrilling Game 7, he hit a pivotal three-run homer off renowned pitcher Shohei Ohtani.

After the season concluded, Bichette made the decision to decline Toronto’s qualifying offer of $22.025 million in late 2025, officially entering free agency.
