WNBA superstar Angel Reese is making headlines not just for her athletic achievements but also for her bold ventures off the court. The forward for the Chicago Sky has successfully broadened her influence beyond basketball, emerging as a significant fashion icon. A prime example of this transition occurred when Reese graced the runway of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in October, showcasing her flair for style.
But there's more! Recently, she has taken another exciting step in her career by investing in a brand that holds personal significance for her. According to a report by Daniela Morosi from Business of Fashion, skincare company Topicals revealed on Wednesday that both Angel Reese and Nigerian music artist Rema have become investors in their brand.
Topicals announced that they completed a funding round that included these two prominent figures from the entertainment and sports worlds. Olamide Olowe, the founder and CEO of Topicals, emphasized the importance of having investors who are genuinely familiar with and use the products. She pointed out that having a cultural leader like Angel Reese involved could significantly change perceptions regarding Black-owned businesses.
Olowe remarked, "Investors are becoming more cautious about backing Black-owned enterprises. We take pride in the fact that others who are influential in the culture see value in businesses like ours and want to see them flourish."
Since its inception in 2020, Topicals has successfully raised over $22.6 million, gaining fame for its popular products such as the $22 under-eye masks and the $38 Faded Serum, which are designed to address issues like dark spots and hyperpigmentation.
This latest investment isn’t Angel Reese’s first encounter with the beauty industry; she previously entered into an ambassador partnership with Mielle Organics. This collaboration allows the brand to utilize Reese’s likeness for marketing purposes across social media, promotional events, and even a special limited-edition product bundle.
On the court, Reese has been making waves in her second season in the WNBA, averaging impressive statistics with 14.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Her shooting percentages stand at a notable 45.8% from the field and 75.6% from the free-throw line.
As Reese continues to break barriers and redefine her role in sports and business, one can't help but wonder: what will she tackle next? Will her investment choices inspire more athletes to step into the business world? Join the conversation and share your thoughts!
